The mission of the Systems Competence Area is to perform research and education in the field of high-speed optical communication systems at the highest international level. This involves improving the performance of such systems regarding signal generation, transmission, signal processing and switching. The mission is accomplished by cooperation with other Competence Areas at DTU Fotonik and with partners in Denmark and the rest of the world.
Research is performed in the following areas:
- Optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) systems
- Optical label switching and optical packet switching
- Optical modulation formats
- Optical signal processing using nonlinear fibres and semiconductor components
- Technologies for fibre-to-the-home (FTTH)
