Today, our everyday lives are affected by changes in electronic communication. Thanks to developments in electronic communication, we can comfortably watch a movie online, talk to our family across the ocean on our cell phones, and listen to radio from all over the world. Effective transmission systems and new technological solutions are crucial to the flow of communication and the possibility of exchanging more information of high quality.
As a research institution, DTU Fotonik has an international reputation within telecommunication - working on both optical as well as other communication technologies. Here you will benefit from a large pool of expertise that covers the whole range within telecommunications.
The atmosphere at DTU Fotonik is young and international. Students and researchers represent more than 15 nationalities and accordingly English is the language we use for work and lecturing. As a student at DTU Fotonik you can choose a purely experimental or a theoretical approach to your studies. However, we appreciate a close interaction between the two approaches. It is important that you are eager to test and carry out your ideas.
You will get plenty of opportunities to work with exactly those subjects you are interested in and there is always room for testing new ideas at DTU Fotonik, e.g. you may start your own experimental course in cooperation with your supervisor or start researching brand new topics early in your study program.
Every year we educate more than 40 MSc students and 15 PhD students, while several hundred students are attending courses offered by DTU Fotonik. We offer a whole range of different courses among which the students can choose. This is true for international students too, since nearly all courses are taught in English. Most of our courses are offered at Open University.Several of our candidates continue their studies for a PhD degree within one of our five competence areas.
